The trick is to be an adult, without being too grown-up.

Kawanio che keeteru!

"'When superstition dark and hauty plan
Fettered the genius and debased the man,
Each trifling legend was as truth received;
The priest invented, and the crowd believed;
Nations adored the whim in stone or paint,
And gloried in the fabricated saint.
Some holy guardian, hence, each nation claims—
Gay France her Dennis, and grave Spain her James,
Britons at once two mighty saints obey—
Andrew and George maintain united sway,
O'er humbler lands the same odd whim prevails;
Ireland her Patrick, boasts her David, Wales.
We Pennsylvanians, these old tales reject,
And our own saint think proper to erect—
Immortal Tammany of Indian Race,
Great in the fields, and foremost in the chase,
No puny saint was he, with fasting pale,
He climbed the mountains, and swept the vale;
Rushed through the torrent with unequaled might;—
Your ancient saints would tremble at the sight—
Caught the swift boar, and swifter deer with ease,
And worked a thousand miracles like these.
To public views, he added private ends,
And loved his country most, and next his friends.
With courage long he strove to ward the blow,
(Courage we all respect, e'en in a foe)—
And when each effort he in vain had tried,
Kindled the flame in which he bravely died!
To Tammany let the full horn go round;
His fame let every honest tongue resound;
With him let every generous patriot vie
To live in freedom, or with honor die!
Nor shall I think my labor too severe,
Since ye, wise sachems, kindly deign to hear.'
"These glowing colours our applause command,
The happy work of fair Eliza's hand!
Here as her genius and her taste we trace,
Each savage feature softens into grace,
What various merit must adorn the youth,
How must he shine in valour, wit and truth,
Who wins the heart of this accomplished Fair,
And finds his happy image pictured there."

Ugh. buddhu. :P
Ola, nicrap! Hope all's well on your side of the planet!

Short of a full blooded war between India and Pakistan - you may have heard about the rising tension between the two countries - everything else is going pretty well.

What's up on your "front"? ;)
Same old same-o. The swamp ate another so-called reformer in DC. It's time for Plan B. As my hero says, "In the hopeless situation we are in, facing a false choice, we should gather the courage and simply abstain from voting. Abstain, and begin to think." ;)
This may be old news, but, fyi.

Very cool. I love getting to see and hear my internet acquaintances. I was even able to follow her presentation. 😉

P.s. why do academics seem to dislike Zizek so much?
Thersites said…
IMO- He's not your typical "leftist"... and the others, "resent" his honesty. A leftist with the respect of the right-wing is "dangerous".... "paradigm altering".
Thersites said…
He's also a great "communicator". He makes very abstract and obtuse concepts and prose "accessible" to non-academics.
Thersites said…
He's one of the few Leftists with a mass, non-academic following. University grads may love Chomsky, but few outside Academia do.
Thersites said…
ps - He's outside of the "university" discourse. He represents the "analyst" discourse... and the Left doesn't like to identify itself with the Master discourse. He removes the veil that covers the Left's alliance/allegiance to "the Master".
Jen said…
Yes, exactly! He threatens to tear the veil been them and us. :P

These are excellent, Jen.

Great proportions and palette.

Thanks Ducky! I'd feel bad if I didn't tell you that they aren't paintings. They are expired Kodak instant film sheets that I manipulated to get different designs.

Doesn't lessen their interest, Jen.

You have a talent for finding strong form and interest in apparent randomness.

Thanks Duck. We're in Memphis right now and I'm shooting tri x. :)
