These guys were really nice about letting me come in and take photos.

so many great angles, so much contrast....nice. Did you try these in black/white?

Hope you've had a wonderful start of the new year xxx

Thank you, Z! No, I only shot these in color and I realize now that my white balance is WAY off! I'll have to fix that. 2016 is off to a good start. Happy New Year to you! :)

That's better. :)

Wow! How'd you get into the Patriarchy's inner sanctum?

We've got a little old-fashioned barber shop like this in town, but you have to be up on all your sport's stats and local high school gossip to gain any hope of getting a consistent haircut. I can't imagine them ever permitting an "outsider" access.

You must have a good line, like "Back in the 30's, my grandfather used to get all his haircuts here," or something to that end.

Love these old-fashioned barber shops. We still have a few left here in Northern Virginia.

FJ, I guess carrying around an old 1962 Polaroid Land camera helps get me in with certain crowds. ;-) They're so fascinated that I'm using such an old camera that they forget I'm in taking photos in their sacred space.

AOW, I love these places, too. We used to have one in my little town, but the barber passed away and it shut down. This one is in a town about half an hour from me, and I think it's been in business since the early 1900's.

they're black and white NOW :-)
Those 'old fashioned barber shops' are only NOW popping up in my neighborhood...with retro furniture, retro signage outside! Very cute.

Z,
there's been a big push in this part of Texas to spiff up the downtown areas. I think Laura Bush had something to do with it...giving grants to lots of small towns. It really has helped. This particular town is where I spend most of my time and have made a lot of friends who are artists.
