Time

And an astronomer said, "Master, what of Time?"
      And he answered:
You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable.
You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and       seasons.
Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.
Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,
And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.
And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space.
Who among you does not feel that his power to love is boundless?
And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed within the centre of his being, and moving not form love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds?
And is not time even as love is, undivided and placeless?
But if in you thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons,
And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.

Khalil Gibran, The Prophet

Just to carry the note a little further...
Ducky's here said…

When I heard the learn’d astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.

I've been in a Wilco mood for a few weeks now...

Great song by ATE, FJ. I want that album now... ;-)

But their music is like so much other music that I love, but can't listen to on a daily basis. It has a tendency to make the shadows longer...

Indeed.

I love music that tugs at the heart, but we all need distance as well.

I've been on a Tom Waits "kick" lately. To me, it's so like the Turkish March from Beethoven's 9th.

Subversive as all get out.

btw - I hope my own postings haven't brought you down. I've been in a pretty dark mood myself...

I'll try and find something cheerier to post about in the future. No promises, but I'll try.

I noticed that your posts have been pretty heavy! It's always comforting that someone else is thinking along those lines, but I try not to sink too low...

I've been off my anti-depressant for about one year now...and I feel every minute of every day...so distance is something that I desperately need.

I try really hard to not marinate in those emotions like I used to...

p.s. I forwarded your 'talk nerdy to me' video to my nerdiest friend. ;-)

Us nerds definitely need to stick together!

Hang in there!
