This Jeep was fun.

My grandfather would use it to drive from the house to the fields, and he'd let us ride along.

He never really went fast, but it sure felt like it.

My heart would race....there were no doors! The wind in my face, my little hands gripping my cousin's arm. I loved it. The smell of the dirt and water. Motor oil. The light blue sky. I wanted to cry with happiness.

I used my Crown Graphic to take this photo. I use this camera because it forces me to be more mindful, and to slow down. slow way down. I sweat when I use this camera. There's so much to remember. I have a strange mix of pleasure and pain, because while it's incredibly fulfilling, I inevitably miss some little detail. In this photo, I neglected to push the dark slide all the way back in after the previous shot, so there's a light leak on the right.

Looks vintage Korea or WWII. Cool vehicle!

At one time I knew where he got it, but I can't remember now. :/

I wonder if it could pass inspection, if it were refurbished??

It looks more like the military version than the CJ-3A. Did it have a power take-off (Farm version)?

My Uncle Louie had once owned a Willy's. I don't remember which model he had, though. All I remember was his pair of 1955 Cadillac limousines. He drove the whole family 400 miles down to my sister's wedding in Thousand Oaks in them. And when my cousin got married, this was his wedding present to her. He loved his cars. When he finally sold out in the early 80's, he had the family home disassembled and moved up to the foothills near Placerville. My aunt and cousin still live there.

Jen, could you please email me for your address? I crashed a few months ago and lost some emails. I only have cheeseinmyshoe and it just came back.
Thanks! XX

What do you mean by power take off? It was a standard.

Your Uncle Louie gave nice wedding gifts!

A power take-off is a bulky gearbox that allows you to attach the vehicle's rotating driveshaft to other farm machinery, like an elevator or corn sheller.

Most farm tractors have them.

My Uncle Louie eventually went blind. I remember him learning to read Braille in the early 70's. He also used to play with gadgets that translated written words to Braille. One of my fondest memories of him was him playing his pipe organ while we watched silent movies. He collected/ traded everything... and had an old animated neon sign hanging in his Eucalyptus tree lined driveway with the word's "Trader Lou's" and a picture of him sitting on a stump whittling...

What a character your Uncle Louie was! I love hearing the stories, FJ.

And nope, that jeep wasn't a farm version. Must have been the military version. I'd like to restore it, but I don't even know if it would pass inspection.

To this day we still call a bowl of vanilla ice cream covered in cashews and Hershey's chocolate syrup an "Uncle Louie" at our house.

I love it!!

Papaw used to mix peanut butter and Karo syrup up and pour it over white bread. We called it "rabbit food"!
