I would like to know how trauma affects the brain and it's ability to regulate emotions and the sympathetic nervous system. I would like to know the long-term effects of trauma on overall heath and longevity.

I would like to travel to beautiful places and see things for the first time.

I want to forget who I think people think I am,

I want to hit the restart button.

Sounds like your "flight" response is winning out over the "fight" aspects. ;)

If not here, related papers?

Maybe start here for a general background?

I know, I shouldn't try offering solutions... just lend support, but I can't help myself. It's what "guys" do. :P

Flight is in full activation mode. I spent the last 4 months "fighting" at work and now I'm avoiding all confrontation.

I don't mind your suggestions at all FJ.
I'm not sure if it's just my curated online feed / experience or if it's a bigger phenomenon, but it seems vey trendy to blame "trauma" for everything right now. I realize that something as small as getting honked at or flipped off in traffic may be considered trauma for some people, but for obvious reasons it's something I view a little differently. BUT....the brain and nervous system don't necessarily differentiate "big" events from "small" ones.

I'm rambling...

I talk about my trauma here more than anywhere else in my life. I need to. But even after going through specific treatments to process it, and being reassured that yes, indeed, it was a MAJOR life-changing trauma, I still, after all this time feel "silly" for continuing to go back to it again and again.

but that's exactly how trauma works. once it happens, it gets "reactivated" whenever the nervous system experiences another jarring experience (trauma). and here I am. if ANYONE would like to file things away and more ON....and not let something define her...it's me. this is physiological, though. its not a choice.

this must be confusing without knowing some background. I'll write about it....

Enjoy my verbose and overly-damatic story telling.
